Beaumaris is the most polished town on Anglesey, a Georgian seafront looking across the Menai Strait to the mountains of Snowdonia. Its castle, the last and most technically perfect of Edward I's Welsh fortresses, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site — though it was never actually finished.

Why is Beaumaris Castle a World Heritage Site?
Beaumaris is considered the finest example of concentric castle design in Britain — the last and most symmetrical of the fortresses Edward I built to control Wales. It is part of the "Castles and Town Walls of King Edward in Gwynedd" World Heritage listing, despite never being completed.
Can you see Snowdonia from Beaumaris?
Yes — Beaumaris sits on the Menai Strait directly opposite the mountains, and the view of the Snowdonia range across the water is one of the best on Anglesey. The mainland and the mountains are about 40 minutes' drive away over the Menai bridges.
