The Conwy valley runs from the walled town and castle at the estuary mouth up into the northern edge of Snowdonia, which makes it a useful base if you want mountains and a proper town in the same trip. Conwy Castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the town walls are still complete enough to walk.

Where to stay in Conwy Valley
Conwy town itself for restaurants and the castle. Up the valley at Trefriw and Llanrwst you're in farmland with the mountains rising either side. Betws-y-Coed at the top of the valley is the walkers' hub and the busiest point.

Summer and half-terms are tight because this is the main tourist artery of north Wales. Midweek in the shoulder months is straightforward, and winter here is quiet and often clear.
