Anglesey is low and open where Snowdonia is vertical, which makes it a different kind of break entirely. The whole coastline is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and because the island is flat you get enormous skies and sunsets that last. It's also the mainland-adjacent option — the mountains are visible across the strait and forty minutes away by car.
Where to stay in Anglesey
The west coast around Rhosneigr and Aberffraw has the surf beaches and the best sunsets. The north around Amlwch and Cemaes is remote and cheap. The east, near Beaumaris and Menai Bridge, is the most polished and the closest to Snowdonia if you want to do both.
When to book
Summer weekends go early because of the beaches and the sailing. Autumn is underrated here — the light is extraordinary and the island empties out completely after October half-term.
