Vale of Glamorgan
Bro Morgannwg
Jurassic cliffs and farmland, twenty minutes from Cardiff.
The Glamorgan Heritage Coast is a striped wall of Jurassic limestone running west from Barry, and behind it sits some of the gentlest farmland in Wales. It's the easiest hot tub break to reach in the country if you're flying into Cardiff or coming down the M4, and it's routinely ignored in favour of driving another two hours west.
Where to stay in Vale of Glamorgan
Llantwit Major and St Donats sit right on the heritage coast. Cowbridge inland is the market town with the good food. Penarth on the eastern edge is effectively Cardiff-by-the-sea and useful if you want a city day in the middle of the break.
When to book
The least competitive area on this list. Because it's a commuter belt rather than a holiday region, you can often find good properties at short notice even in summer.
