Ceredigion
Cardigan Bay, dolphins, and a coast most people drive past.
Ceredigion runs along Cardigan Bay between Pembrokeshire and Snowdonia, and it is the most reliably overlooked stretch of Welsh coast. New Quay and Cardigan Bay hold the largest resident population of bottlenose dolphins in the UK, and you can genuinely see them from the harbour wall on a calm day.
Where to stay in Ceredigion
Aberystwyth is the town, with the university and the pier. New Quay and Aberaeron are the pretty harbour villages, Aberaeron especially — the Georgian terraces are painted in colours that shouldn't work and do. Inland the Teifi valley towards Lampeter is farmland and forest and much cheaper.
When to book
Dolphin season runs roughly April to September and drives the summer demand. Outside that, availability is comfortable and rates drop sharply. October on this coast is often still and clear.
