The quiet arm of north Wales, and the most Welsh-speaking corner of it.
The Llŷn reaches thirty miles out into the Irish Sea past Snowdonia, and most visitors to north Wales never drive down it. It's an AONB, it has the highest concentration of Welsh speakers anywhere, and it holds beaches — Porthdinllaen, Porthor, Aberdaron — that would be overrun anywhere else in Britain.
Where to stay in Llŷn Peninsula
Abersoch is the busy, sailing-and-second-homes end. Head further west towards Aberdaron and Uwchmynydd and it gets emptier and wilder with every mile. Nefyn and Morfa Nefyn on the north coast split the difference.
When to book
Abersoch in August is its own market and books far ahead. The far west is available much later. If you want a hot tub with genuine isolation, this peninsula is the best-value place in Wales to find one.
