Denbigh is a historic market town in the Vale of Clwyd, crowned by the substantial ruins of a medieval castle and walled upper town on the hill above. It sits on the western side of the vale, looking across to the Clwydian ridge, with H. M. Stanley — of "Dr Livingstone, I presume" — among its sons.
