Newport — the Pembrokeshire one, not the city in Gwent — is a small, handsome town where the Preseli Hills meet the sea at the Nevern estuary. It has become quietly foodie, with good pubs and delis, while keeping its walking-town character.

The Preseli Hills are the source of the "bluestones" that form the inner circle of Stonehenge, quarried and somehow transported to Wiltshire around 5,000 years ago. The range is also rich in Neolithic sites such as Pentre Ifan and offers open, gentle upland walking.
