Tenby is the postcard of south Pembrokeshire: a walled medieval town of pastel-painted houses stacked above a harbour, with wide sandy beaches on either side. It is the family capital of the county and the busiest resort in west Wales.
Staying near Tenby
The base for a beach-first, family break where you want things within walking distance. For a hot tub with more space, the villages just inland around St Florence and Penally put you minutes from the sand with more room.

The North and South Beaches; the harbour and Castle Hill; boat trips to Caldey Island and its monastery; and the coast path towards Manorbier and its castle.
When to visit
June and September for the beaches without the full August crush; the Caldey Island boats run Easter to October, Monday to Saturday.

Is Tenby good for families?
It is the best-known family resort in Pembrokeshire — walkable, with two large sandy beaches, a harbour, boat trips and plenty of cafés and shops. Hot tub properties in the villages just inland let families combine the beach days with somewhere quieter to stay.
Can you visit Caldey Island from Tenby?
Yes. Boats run from Tenby harbour to Caldey Island, home to a working Cistercian monastery, roughly Easter to October (Monday to Saturday, weather permitting). The crossing takes about 20 minutes and you can walk the island, visit the abbey and buy the monks' produce.
